Data protection information in accordance with Art. 13 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) is conducting the online survey "My way in Germany" in cooperation with the Research Centre of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF-FZ). The data collected will be used to investigate the experiences of people with a migrant background in Germany and how this influences their living situation. Your data will be treated as strictly confidential. Participation is voluntary! There are no disadvantages for you, regardless of whether you decide to participate or not.

What happens to my information? – Your data will be processed in compliance with strict data protection regulations and will be kept separate from your name and address. The researchers who analyse the data will only receive this data without your name and address and are therefore unable to find out who you are. Results of the survey that are published do not contain information on individuals, but only on larger groups (e.g. percentage or average values). The publication is therefore anonymous. In order to keep the interview as short as possible, while still obtaining most meaningful research results, we include – provided that we have your consent – data held by the IAB or the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) in the analysis of the survey. This includes, for example, information about your previous employment, your unemployment or residence permits and your registration status since entry. In order to obtain the additional information, the survey data and personal data will be transmitted to the BAMF Research Centre. The BAMF-FZ will supplement the survey data with the data on the Central Register of Foreigners and anonymise the resulting data set. It is therefore not possible to draw conclusions about your person. During the interview, we will ask all respondents whether they agree that this data will be linked to the information they provided in the interview. We guarantee that all data protection regulations will be strictly adhered to in this process as well. Your consent is of course voluntary and you can revoke it at any time for the future. The data is evaluated for purely scientific purposes. For scientific purposes, an anonymised data set of the study will also be made available via the IAB and/or BAMF Research Centre after completion of the survey. However, the data accessible to science do not allow any conclusions to be drawn about specific participants in the survey and are anonymised. Use for commercial purposes (advertising, marketing) is not permitted.

How did the IAB obtain my contact details? – The IAB may ask people to participate in surveys if necessary information cannot be derived from existing data. The IAB has received your contact details from the administrative area of the BA (which also includes the employment agencies) or from a job centre and has passed them on to the survey service provider ingress on the legal basis of Art. 28 GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) - order processing.

Your contact details were originally collected by an employment agency or a job centre when you were a customer there, or come from a report by your (current or former) employer to the social security system (notification in accordance with § 28a SGB IV). The BA and the job centres transmit your contact details and data on your nationality to the IAB on the legal basis of § 282 (5), (6) SGB III, § 55 SGB II. There is a legal obligation for the BA and the job centres to pass on the contact details to the IAB, so that your consent to this is not required.

Within the survey service provider ingress, your contact details will be used exclusively for the purpose of conducting the survey and will be deleted there at the earliest possible time. The survey itself and the merging of the data collected in the survey with data held by the IAB or the BAMF or collected there will only take place if you have previously consented to this (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR).

Why have I been asked for my email address and / or mobile telephone number? – To be able to ask you again and to send you your voucher, we need your email address. Your personal data will not be passed on to third parties and is protected under the data protection laws by the Institute for Employment Research. Your consent to this will be requested in the survey and can be withdrawn at any time.

Who is responsible for data processing? – The Federal Employment Agency, represented by the Executive Board, Regensburger Str. 104, 90478 Nuremberg, is responsible for the processing of personal data in the context of this survey. You will receive the invitation to the survey from the IAB. The technical execution of the survey is carried out by Ingress as a processor of the IAB. Ingress acts exclusively in accordance with the instructions of the IAB and is obliged to maintain strict confidentiality. The BAMF Research Centre, Frankenstraße 210, 90461 Nuremberg, is responsible for merging the survey data with the foreigner register data.

Erasure Your survey data will be deleted at Ingress at the end of the subsequent survey wave, at the IAB and the BAMF Research Centre at the end of the retention period to ensure good scientific practice.

Your rights You have the right to request information concerning the data kept about you by the IAB, as well as to ask for an assessment as to whether a rectification, erasure or transmission of your data or a restriction concerning their processing must take place, or whether we have to follow up on your objection to a processing of your data. You can also withdraw your consent at any time.Withdrawal of consent is possible by regular mail or by e-mail at any time.
